What will you do as a participant?
As a prospective or current farmer, you will answer a set of online questions about what you want to grow. You will then be guided to obtain free, basic information such as soils, aerial photos, and topographical maps for your farm, and will gain quick access to customized labor, capital, crop and livestock requirements. In addition, you will be provided with an easy way to determine the expertise required in order to be successful. In addition, the project will create a link between new farmers and Extension Educators. Each new farmer will learn to make the best choices for sustainable farming, guided by their customized farm plan, a workbook for record keeping and analysis, and a glossary of basic agriculture terms. Farmers participating in the program will be asked to complete a pre- and post-test to determine the usefulness of the computer program, training sessions, and materials.
How can I join this project?
Please complete the form under "Apply" if you are a new or beginning small farmer in Missouri and are interested in participating in this program. A $20 honorarium will be paid to cover the time spent in filling out the surveys and the computer program, and gathering farm data. The customized farm plan will be yours to keep and implement.
